What is the Art Bar about?
Updated: Aug 26, 2020
It's about poetry, silly. Reading, hearing, cheering, sighing, laughing, and crying. Listening like it's a power (it is). That magic of the contemplative attention to the word that can break your heart, save your soul, tickle your fancy, or dance your heart. It's beautiful. This is not a place to promote your own poetry, books, or other product. It's a place to share in the common miracle that is performed poetry. We do welcome announcements of poetry contests and other reading events, however.
The Art Bar is the longest-running weekly poetry series in Canada. Founded by Allen Sutterfield, and run by volunteers ever since it offers both emerging and established poets a place to share their work with an attentive audience.
It is a weekly run poetry reading series held every Tuesday, at The Free Times Cafe, 320 College St. in Toronto at 8 p.m. The evening includes three featured readers, plus an open mic. $5 cover.
